1991 300mm 2.8

I have the chance to buy a 300mm 2.8 L lens but am wondering as it is so old is in inferior to the later non IS
lenses ie 1998-99

I've got one of the similar vintage (about 1997) which I bought s/h about 18 months ago (can't tell you the date code because I've lent it out at the moment) and it is brilliant.
I had it checked by the Canon techs at the 2010 Melbourne F1 GP and they said it's perfect optically.
I've compared it to some later 300/2.8 IS versions and can't see any discernible difference between them.
If the price is right, get it.

Don't worry about the age of it - ot's the optics that are important.

I own even un older one than yours which is 18 years old, and I wouldn't change unless I can find a 200L1.8 ..

I just made a post in another thread extolling the virtues of the 200/1.8L
It's far and away the best lens I've ever shot with.
If ever I had the opportunity to buy one, I would in a heartbeat.
