i think it looks good. nice contrast between the darks and lights but not too much. how many shots were taken to achieve this HDR?

actually only one raw image that i converted into 3 differently exposed jpegs. i did bracket some exposures for hdr so il try again with those later. this image was just one of the sharper ones so i wanted to see how it came out.

I like how this turned out - you did a really good job. There's not too much of a discrepancy between the dark and highlight zones, you preserved detail on the terminator, no burnt areas... well done.

Imagine your result if you do this with 200 or so shots, to get nice, crisp details as well :)

Once again, congrats.

thanks so much for the compliments. 200 shots in an hdr would be nice haha, and maybe an extra 200mm to take them with :)

Lower focal lengths are forgiving... you need a very stable atmosphere for focals above 1m... it gets frustrating really fast- I've put a x2 barlow on a 800mm Newt, and because I shoot from the balcony, directly above apartment buildings none of the images are showable lol.

clear, dark skies and absence of concrete where you live usually mean that you won't have the cash to buy the equipment lol... astrophoto's quite a **** sometimes :P

hahaha. still, since this photo was taken at 300mm - i wouldnt mind a little more zoom so i don't need to crop for a good composition. i dont know if i could handle 1600mm though :P
