I'm not sure this even qualifies as Macro but given the circumstances I'm happy with this photo. I took it with my 70-200 NON-IS lens with a 2x extender and no post processing except to crop it for the forum. I like the DOF but the sharpness doesn't come close to what I see everyone else posting. I'm trying to decide what type of lens setup to buy so I can take pictures like I see here. Suggestions about a lens setup or comments on the picture are welcome

I'd say that adds to the OP's confusion - it's not a moth. ;)

The rule of thumb I've been told is that butterflies usually have clubbed ends on their antennae and rest with wings folded up like in this photo. Moths usually have feathered antennae and rest with wings flat down beside them. There are exceptions, but those are the common ones.

I miss named this. I think it looks more like a moth than butterfly. It's technically not a moth or a butterfly, it's just a skipper. Skippers are distinguished from true butterflies by the antennae, which are farther apart at the base and the end pointed-curved clubs. Their bodies are moth-like, and that's where many confuse them for moths.
