This is totally not true.
Once again windows users show ignorance!

Source is easy http://arstechnica.com …s/apple.ars/2005/8/11/936 (external link)

Now lose the pompous attitude. A mac user was wrong, shock horror, what is the world coming to.

It appears you are correct.

If this holds true, I do apologize.

Actually if this holds true, I'm sure it won't be acceptable to Steve.

I have Home at home and Pro work .. no crashes.

I generally tell people to boot once a week if they leave their systems constantly on. And Clean out the spyware too....

Calm down chaps, this was never meant to start another Mac-Win row :-)

Anyhows, for interest, I have tracked down the problem, at least in part. Re-loaded all my software and took the opportunity to update all the drivers etc as I went so some good came out of it. Plugged in my ipod, installed iTunes and got the same registry failure BSOD crash error. Plugged the iPod into the laptop, which has the same version of iTunes and all is fine???? Re-installed the Ipod software on the desktop and now both work???? Go figure.

Haha, you can count on apple to destroy you windows installation! ;)

I really hope they manage to hack OS X so it works on PCs... I want to try it out without buying a whole new computer, because I really love the concept. I run Linux at work because for some things I do it's much better... but OS X has what linux should have - a great GUI with all the regular programs (Adobe and so on) on a stable unix core. I would love to have that in some other way, but right now, it's the only option. But the option is way to expensive for me as it is now...

Sounds like iTunes was the problem, I wonder who makes that?

Iv just had to reinstall a bit of software after it went bad, most of my problems in the past have been from software going wrong or were driver related, usualy because Iv installed some generic hardware instead of buying name brand stuff trying to save money.

Next time try a system restore first, it might have allowed the problem to manifest itself in a differnt way, highlighting the actual problem.
Then all would have had to do was re-install iTunes :)

So long and thanks for all the flash

Windows XP to a computer is like engine oil for your Car, to keep it going well you need to drain it and put a new one in (read: reformat and reinstall). Its a pain but with the number of crap software installed/uninstalled plus spy ware/viruses it just makes sense.

To make it easier, partition about 15GB for Windows XP and put all your documents and important stuff on another partition or drive. That way when you fresh install XP its much easier.

Not really... if you don't install a lot of crappy software, stay away from Internet Explorer and have a decent firewall appliance, you'll do just fine anyway.
The problem is that most people end up with lots of junk on their computer because they just have to click the "install" button on some webpages, and can't help it when someone sends files over email/msn.. they must look at it! If people knew what they were doing, the problem wouldn't exist :)

Yeah, any OS works like a charm if you don't install any applications on it at all. And why not, it's much more fun to play solitaire anyway than to actually work. :D

I actually have a friend that bought his Powerbook about 3 months after I got mine (almost 3 years ago now) and it took 2 years before he started using it. He was so scared of installing anything on it and I was cheering him on, holding hands, but it wasn't until his desktop PC crashed that he actually got up the nerve to start using it. Now he's in heaven (and I bet anyone would be in heaven when they have a working computer, regardless what OS they run). :D

Bosman, yeah and how many plays chess? So that means that us Mac users has to install applications and therefor fall out of that category of computer users. It's hard work to install Eric's Ulitmate Solitaire!! :D :D
