just picked up a G11 little under a month ago and have shot about 150-200 pics with it. Outdoor pics are very good (unless its my eyes, I tend to think that with this camera, people do not actually appear as clear as other stationary objects). In any case however, I was trying to see if i could get some advice as to why the G11 takes such bad indoor photos (not necessarily blaming the camera, I'm a novice and it very well could be user error :oops:). I was indoors today shooting pictures inside a church that had very low lighting. I also picked up a Canon - Speedlite 430 EX II External Flash when I bought the camera and naturallly used it today in church. Came home, downloaded the photos on Picasa, and out of 88 pictures, I had to delete 25 of them because either they turned out blurry or appeared in this "yellowish" type color pattern. The camera was in AUTO mode the entire time (including the ISO setting), so I'm just curious as to why the pictures turned out this way. I would have figured that if I hadn't had the external flash attached, then the pics would turn out that way, so.............

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks

I'm a novice

The camera was in AUTO mode the entire time

And yet 70% of your pics were keepers? Sounds pretty good to me actually. Post pics ;)

does this forum use img tags (photobucket) to post pics? That's the way I'm used to doing in on other boards. Please advise.

I will also publish the exif data with each photo (picasa is nice enough to display the info of every pic I take) :)

thanks for the help. I will try and get some photos up tomorrow night.

btw, these I will be putting up have already been corrected by Picasa. I did that with all the photos I had. All the blurred and other "defective" pics were deleted.

That won't give us any information to help you find the answer as to why the other photo's were bad.

Best guesses from limited info provided - your white balance wasn't set properly and you don't have a steady hand.

Blurry->shutter speed too slow
"yellowish"->white balance set incorrectly.

Both of these should be correctable, BUT you need to get off of AUTO and take control of the camera.

How much do you know about photography?

Next time don't delete them. One of the best ways to learn is to post a "bad" picture (with all the settings you used) and we'll diagnose what went wrong and how to correct it for next time.

For flash pictures, try the P or M mode. If you do some studying on how the flash works in the different modes, P, TV, AV & M, it will help you out a bunch.

I doubt you'll need a flash for the environment you're talking about. Are you getting any ambient light from windows? Try to get away from using auto mode, auto ISO. It's not accurate especially indoors. Try Av mode, F/2.8, ISO400, WB tungsten (may have to experiment with different WB setting) and have a very steady hand or use a tripod.
