A suggestion, use RAW size so you can do more editing with the camera's software after the fact.

Seeing that the camera has different scene modes (and that the weather here tomorrow will be nice and sunny), should I just leave the camera in "landscape" mode to take outside shots of the church, headstones, trees, etc? You'll find most of us here with the G11 don't use the scene modes very much. The scene mode generally sets certain WB settings, iso settings, etc to suit the sort of image but this can be rather generic and may not suit what you are trying to achieve. Better to play first with Program mode, then Av or Tv to suit the situation before going to manual where needed. 500D, Speedlite 430EX II, Lens : 15-85mm; 50mm F1.8 II; 100mm F2.8L IS Macro; 70-200mm F4L; Samyang 8mm F3.5
