I am still a newbie in photography (bought all my gear in March/April) so this was just a practice shoot I did for fun today on a friend's baby but I realized this is something I would REALLY love to do in the future. We were in front of 2 large windows but it was so overcast that there wasn't much light so I ended up using my 480EX and GF lightsphere. The actual set up is something I definitely need tips on from anyone that does newborn shoots! I was just using a boppy pillow on top of an ottoman draped with the blanket that was draped up onto 2 chairs.

Here's one of the b&w conversions, I would love some CC on this as well!

The first post the images have a bluish purple cast, or at least the backdrop does. If the backdrop is white, it should be white. That's my only fault. The B&W one is great.

EDIT: My work monitor isn't calibrated but the color cast is pretty strong so...

The background is actually bluish purple, but in the black and white photo I lightened it because it looked better that way. Thanks for your input. Does the color cast look odd?

You just got your gear in March/April and you're shooting like this? Well done.

WOW Thank you! One of the best compliments I've ever received! Yes I ordered my
50D and lenses and about 3-4 photography books, including a few about my camera and did as much reading as I could! I think my biggest help has been this forum though, just browsing around and asking questions! Plus I have a 3 year daughter that is a great little model so I get TONS of practice that way!
I still have SO much to learn though, I am still pretty confused on some things! So I'm excited to learn even more!

Stacey... what were the books that you picked up? I am in the same boat you were in back in march, except I dont have the money to upgrade my comera seeing as it is farely new. I have the Canon Rebel XS, and I absolutely LOVE it! But dont know much about photography, hense the need for good books :) your pics are beautiful and so is your daughter. Its a bit of a small world, I went to school with your sister, lived in that area till my junior year. I've peaked at your blog a few times thru amber peterson's. Promise im not a stalker ;)

good job! the photos are good over all, my first thought on 2 was not good, but others seem to like it. I don't like the way her hands are bent up. Also 3, i think it would have been better if you could see the hand more or all. The bottom of 3 looks blown out to me, no character.
