hi Jonesy,

I'm very close to buying this lens in conjunction with a new 1D Mark IV. I also buy a 24 L mark II and I have a 135 L..

It is a great picture you took and it is very sharp especially when thinking of the aperture as you have taken this picture with.

Can you show me more pictures taken with this lens?

Which lens would you choose if you were me. 50 L or 24-70?

Hope to hear from you

Best regards

Palna

Best Regards, Mikkel

The focusing sucks on the 50L. I had 2 copies and was never happy with it. It was dead sharp at f/1.2, but the keeper rate with it was so low it was not worth keeping around. My 85 f/1.8 performed better.

The shot itself looks nice.

But Makeup: Less is more.

I am a prime guy so i'd choose the 50L over the 24-70 but test the 50 out before buying it.
I'll post more pics when I take more haha
It's hard putting my 85L away ;)

I agree on the makeup. I had nothing to do with that and she came out looking like that...I think she wanted to cry haha.

Maybe it's a symptom of reading this forum too much, but my eyes keep veering to the OOF areas above her head.

Mine too, it's pretty busy which makes it distracting. IMO using a longer lens like the 85L could have done a better job of rendering the OOF highlights.

I think you sent your new 50L back for focus calibration, right?

If you aimed at the eyes in your shot, then the AF seems fine to me (with the image size you posted). I know at f/1.2 50L has a slight ghosty effect which seems to me is there in your shot.

At this aperture and perhaps at the distance you took this shot, you won't suffer from focus shift. Show us examples that you took in the infamous 'danger zone' with your 50L copy. ;)
