i'm her brother... I used lightroom and it would make it really warm. I think she used photoshop.

Is there a proper technique for shooting the gray card?

Post samples up.

Basically you shoot a reference shot under the same lighting conditions with the gray card in the frame. Then you shoot away. In post, you use the WB tool and click on the gray card.

This is meant to be a reference point. You adjust further according to your preferences.

i'll try and pull up one to post. Thats pretty much what we did though. Makes me think AWB is better at getting it correct than the gray card. At least outdoors...

Grey Card for custom white balance

When you set the wb using a grey card outdoor it can only be used for a hour or so if there is no change in sun light color.

To set a custom wb using a grey card put the camera in manual focus and take a shot of the grey card and fill the center circle in the viewfinder for the light that you are in.

Then go into the camera menu and select custom white balance and select that grey card and press set/ok.

Good luck.

You've already got some good critique I just want to add.. Your photos say they are currently saved in Adobe RGB.. You should save in sRGB for web viewing.. Otherwise, your colors will be wonky.

I am super cool n' stuff.

Would you mind sharing how you do this? In Photoshop CS3 does "Save for Web" work best? Otherwise how do you change to sRGB. Thanks! All this advice has been so helpful.

9 is the best one by far. composition is still a bit off, maybe crop away some on the right side.

everything else is just blah! focus is off, and lights are not great cuz you're shooting in the shadow areas.
