Ok, I've searched, but didn't come up with exactly what I was looking for. Tim, I saw your sticky re: your workflow and didn't see it either. If I did happen to miss it, my apologies. The biggest complaint I got from one of my first weddings was that the pics were out of order of the progression of the ceremony. Now, I manually put them in the proper order. Is there a way to do this in a program? I use Bridge.

You should be able to sort them by capture time in Bridge. I use Lightroom and only have an older version of bridge, but the function should be there.

Hi Kevin - yes, just check the time stamp on the files. I also use bridge, and each image file will display the exact date and time that it was shot.

Getting back to you - I just checked (I only have CS2) and the sort by capture time option doesn't exist. You can sort by date created or date modified, which depending on what software you use may be the same as the capture time.

I'm not sure if more recent versions have the sorting option, otherwise you'll have to do it manually via metadata.

Dave and Stuart, thanks for the responses. Here is the current "Sort By" list in Bridge CS4. I have CS5, but haven't installed it yet.

Depending on what software you're using and how you're editing your pictures, "Date Created" may do what you want. I use BreezeSystems Downloader Pro, and that saves the "Date Created" space of the metadata as the capture time of the shot. If I edit the file in Lightroom the "Date Created" attribute is the same, but I don't know if that's the case for you (depending on your workflow).

Also, for future reference, you might want to name your files differently. Coming from the camera all of my files get a sequence number attached to them, so sorting chronologically is as easy as sorting ascending by file name.

I sync the date/time between my bodies.
After I am done shooting I copy the CF cards to my PC and sort by Date created in Bridge. Then I rename the files. Then I sort back by Filename.

I name my files foldernumber_filename. So 00145_0001.jpg, 00145_0002.jpg, etc.

I do a batch rename similar to what Nick does. I don't leave the original file number intact as is.

Nick, I tried to sync my MkII, but the EOS Utility won't recognize the body. It still has the old owner's name in there. I just batch change the EXIF in Bridge.

I don't use any utility to sync my cameras up. I use the clock on my PC. I sit there and watch the second hand and hit "OK" on my camera. Then I do the same for my other camera. Perhaps there's < 1 second margin there, but it would be impossible for me to fire off shots from 2 bodies within a second of each other! Yeah...real high tech solution!:o;)

When I import a shoot (even across multiple cards and time synced bodies) using Aperture, I have it rename the imported file to:

"YYYY-MM-DD at HH-MM-SS"

(note- with Aperture, this is not changing the actual file name, just the imported version name).

I retain this during export - sometimes subbing out the yyyy-mm-dd part for the family or person's name - but keeping the time stamp.

This way, every photo is easy to put in order, no matter how it was shot, but I'm not using a number sequence that could cause someone to ask "Hey, where is photo #23!"

I just sort by capture time in LR and start whittling away. I only rename the files on export. I really don't care what they're called when I'm working on them.

Ok, I am such an idiot. I thought I had done that before, but hadn't. I fixed the issue w/ the clocks now. One of them was 48 minutes off.

Sync the camera times before each ceremony, EOS Utility will do it for you. In Bridge sort by date created or modified - I forget which.
