ER 30 or something, and it froze. Had to shut off, take out battery etc... Meanwhile i lost some nice action shots of my son doing slalom in water skiing... ______________

Only seen it happen after I got the 100mm USM IS Macro F/2.8L lens a month ago. Started locking up with ON/OFF switch not doing anything just same as OP, and having to yank battery. Had not correlated it to auto lock, but will try. Did/Does not seem to happen with my 24-105 F/4L but maybe I got lucky. Does anyone know where you can get onld firmwares? I would like to load 1.1.0 as described by other posters to see if this fixes it.

I have set auto off to 30mins also but hope to see a solution posted eventually.

I've sent the camera in to Canon 3 times now (about to send it in a 4th time). The service centers don't seem to know how to fix the problem. Of course, I'm asking for a new camera at this point, but so far it isn't clear I'll get one.
