7D Freezes or locks up.

did you go to 1.2.2? you can downgrade back to 1.1.0 using EOS utility, then you can go back up to 1.2.2 after testing with 1.1.0 if its still acting up.

canon supposedly said you cant downgrade but i saw quite a few threads over at dpreview showing people were actually able to downgrade but they had to use EOS utility, you cant downgrade via the CF card method.

Nope, happens on my USA version too. Very occasionally.

Happened to me as well as described by Op. After upgrade and when the camera went to hibernate mode. ER 30 or something, and it froze. Had to shut off, take out battery etc... Meanwhile i lost some nice action shots of my son doing slalom in water skiing...

damnit...i waited so long not upgrading coz i wanted all the bugs out....waited soooooo long then upgrade a few days ago and now this thing gets reported LOL.

no news on this I assume, i have mine on - no auto lock - cant be bothered with this crap to be honest. sick of Canon QC. So they release another FW just to fu.. something else up.... the circle of life....

Ended up here after having same issues as OP, on USA 7D. Only seen it happen after I got the 100mm USM IS Macro F/2.8L lens a month ago. Started locking up with ON/OFF switch not doing anything just same as OP, and having to yank battery. Had not correlated it to auto lock, but will try. Did/Does not seem to happen with my 24-105 F/4L but maybe I got lucky. Does anyone know where you can get onld firmwares? I would like to load 1.1.0 as described by other posters to see if this fixes it.

Increasing the auto shut-off time definitely helps as a warkaround solution. I set the auto shut-of to 30 minutes and I did not had the problem since...
I can live with that woraround. Up to you to see if you can live with that "solution"

Yes i can confirm that my new EOS 7D purchased 2 weeks ago, stock from Hong Kong is also locking up after it trys to go to sleep occasionally. I have set auto off to 30mins also but hope to see a solution posted eventually.

I'm having thé exact same issue, regardless of the lens. I have a Sandisk, too. 7d is new (15 days), firmware is 1.2.2, and when it happened the first time I was shooting in low tempatures (relatively) under a light snow. At first I thought it was weather-relative.
I just set up the auto power off setting to 15 min, just to see.
Keep you posted.

I just turned auto power off, not a real solution but it worked, dont have it anymore so cant do further checking..

Mine has done this twice in the time I have had the camera (one of the first ones). Pulling the battery seems to do the trick. Minor irritation, I presume some future firmware update will address this:

Mine has done this about 5 times in the last year.

Mine is giving error 30, locks up when shutter released, have to take battery out....all since Firmware 1.2.3

I have the same problem zincozinco describes above. I've sent the camera in to Canon 3 times now (about to send it in a 4th time). The service centers don't seem to know how to fix the problem. Of course, I'm asking for a new camera at this point, but so far it isn't clear I'll get one.
