I guess the title says it all. I know this has been talked about for some time; for a while even by a Canon insider. Does anyone know if this is going to be a reality and maybe even soon?

The IS is just going to add even more weight and its a studio lens. If an IS version was going to come out Nikon would have already came out with one. Nikon D700: 16-35 F4, 50 1.4G, 85 1.8,105 VR Micro, 135F2 DC, 80-200 2.8 AFS

This fallacy about significant weight with IS just won't die. The 70-200's with and without IS are very close in weight, and canon already has IS in the standard crop lens. As for the 24-70 being a "studio lens", I can say from firsthand experience that there are a LOT of wedding photogs with 24-70's. Current: 5DM3, 6D, 8mm fish, 24-105/4IS, 35/2IS, 70-200/2.8IS, 85/1.8, 100-400/IS v1, lensbaby composer with edge 80, 580's and AB800's

I didnt say anything about significant weight, just weighing more. Nikon D700: 16-35 F4, 50 1.4G, 85 1.8,105 VR Micro, 135F2 DC, 80-200 2.8 AFS

It would only make sense. Studio lens? To me it's more of a walkabout lens than anything. I for one would welcome an IS version for evening shots with failing light. Of course I've been known to use a 70-200 as a walkabout lens so I guess weight isn't that big of a deal to me. VanillaImaging.com
