I want to use a filter with a 58mm thread on 52mm lens. Is this what I should be looking for? Or do I have it backwards?

This should be freakin' easy to figure out but for some reason I can seem to wrap my brain around it this morning! :o Need more coffee...

That is the correct item. Step up rings are used to put a larger filter on a smaller lens.

Yes that is the correct step up.
Would you consider spending just a bit more for a B&W (brass) or Tiffen equivalent? My experience with the Chinese General (Bower) brand is that the step up very frequently jams onto the lens thread or onto the filter, or both. I went though several 72-77 Bowers step ups that I could never get on to my lens. I think the tolerance for machining the threads in the Bowers is just not close enough for comfort.

Thanks for setting me straight!

I actually ended up ordering Adorama's generic step up ring since I was also ordering the B+W K CPL filter at the same time. I hope theirs are ok or little better?
