WOW, very impressive.

Exactly, how dangerous is it to chase some of these storms?

This is probably my favorite of the year but I didn't post it cause the foreground kinda sucks...

QUOTED IMAGE

No way sucky. The foreground is perfect since it displays that vehicle in motion...or should I say, car looks like it's running for its life.

Jayson - Not really, Pawhuska on May 10th was probably the most photogenic of the year, but we were never able to stop so all I have is a shot of it out the window (external link). I guess Leedey (external link) on may 19 was photogenic, but I was 10 miles away from it. Nearly chased May 24, 31 and June 16. Screwed up bad on June 17 like most.

Sometime all you can get is shots out the window, I captured nearly all of these shots on May 22, 2008 (external link) out the window at 50mph. The Leedey shot above is pretty good too, like you said the distance and some of the haze weakens the contrast, but some of the tornadoes out there near the caprock can be amazing shots from that far away.

I take it on June 17 you didn't break south to the IA/MN border fast enough? Took a lot of patience on that day to score those... Or some quick driving! ;)

June 17 I went west towards the dryline near the SD border and didn't think I could catch the stuff to the east so I thought I'd try some stuff in Iowa on the way home, course they were crappy storms. That day kinda haunts me, as looking back I could have easily made it to Albert Lea in time. I was in Worthington an hour before that one happened. If this were 2009 I'd say I had a great year, but missing virutally all the big tornado days just sucks, especially with todays crazy Minnesota tube I should have been on had I not been at a family reunion. Oh well, hopefully I'll have better luck getting one of the few "chase that makes the season" days like Campo, Bowdle, Dupree, Albert Lea, Wahpeton (today) etc. next year.

How'd your year go?

I started a new job in January, thus with moving expenses and no vacation time as of yet I was limited to very few chase days. Still managed two non-photogenic tornadoes, with only 3 chases (1 bust) I can't say it was a terrible year all things considered.

Plenty of vacation time and more funds next year, so I'll be back at it hopefully full-strength for 2011!
