What equipment would I need to be on location take an image and for that image to be sent direct frrom camera to be viewed on a screen.

I appreciate for some this is the norm regarding reportage, obviously I am aware I will need some gadgets such as the WFT-E2 and I have a 3 MiFi and I have a server account (Website) Camera I will be using is 1D Mk3

How is it actually done !!! if someone could give an explanation that would be appreciated, my photography is sailing and I would like to be on the water and take an image and be able to send the image so that spectators ashore could view the image on a screen.

You could setup the WFT to upload the photos to an FTP site. Then create a website that automatically displays the photos from that FTP site. Of course, I'm not sure what you mean by people on the shore. If you are talking about people sitting at the beach watching you, then they would have to have wireless access with a computer also.

But as Rene stated, Not sure what the range of the Mifi is. Also, when you hand off from one cellular antenna to another antenna, you would probably get disconnected. I don't think the WFT's have a smart OS, where it retries after being disconnected. You might have to manual reconnect again if that happens.

The WFT would send to the MiFi (Which would be in my pocket) that would then send to the ftp server
People at the sailing club house (Not the beach) could be able to see the images direct.

Thats the plan anyway, how do press reporters do it !!!!

Press reporters have the backing from the station they work for, so they can probably afford millions of dollars of communications equipment, include a dedicated direct satellite link.

I remember seeing some kind of video coverage on a nationally televised sport. The photogs use small storage cards, like 8Gb or so. The photog removes the storage card and hands it off to a runner, who then brings it to their communication "van", which is then sent via their satellite. I would assume that they have a direct satellite link to their station. Meanwhile the photog has already switched over to another card. If you have ever seen a reporter shooting live, you will probably see a communications van close to them. You'll probably see a radar type antenna or 2 sticking from the top. I doubt they just use a laptop with a Mifi or some kind of wireless router.

No I don`t think so, images are sent via the WFT via a comms hub such as a mobile phone link, notebook or in my case MiFi dongle, satelite, to an office the other side of the world if needed.

I've witnessed pro 'togs sending processed work back to the editor by email, but the operative word is processed, he had a laptop and tidied up the image before passing it on.

But as someone who also has a foot in both photography and sailing, I'd certainly love to know whether what you propose is possible. I assume you will not be hundreds of miles away, so will be unlikely to have to worry about antenna hand-overs mid send?

This has immediate video applications as well. Keeping the shoreside critics entertained at the bar!
