Is it true about the sun damaging your camera's sensors? I was worried about my eyes but...

You did manage to capture some great colors and textures here in the clouds and sunrise and sunsets can make for some great images as you have here.

My camera came with a warning not to point it at the sun, but it's not a DSLR.

Here's a link:

However, I didn't find any warnings against it in the 20d manual.

Here's one thread on the subject:

Hey tupe, throw a level adjustment layer on that image and try to bring in some blacks. It looks a bit overexposed which makes it look a little flat (lack of contrast). Almost the whole image is midtones.

Drag the left (black) slider over to the right close to where the histogram starts. There must be a void on the left side of the histogram.

I'm sure after doing that you'll get even more punch.
If you want to go a bit more crazy, add a selective colour layer and play with the yellows and reds... probably cyans too. Play with the sliders and you'll get some colours popping even more.

Also, you can copy your image to a new layer, apply a hue/saturation adjustment to boost the colour saturation then apply a gausian blur just enough to hide the noise. Then change the blend mode to colour.

Great image. I wish I saw more clouds like that around here.

I see what you mean about the midtones, and my first impulse was to darken the shadows. I didn't like what I got, so this is how I left it.

Feel free to tweak and post what you think would look better. This one's fun to play with.

Here's seriously a 5-min fix.
A bit of PS noise reduction, a levels adjustment, and selective colour.

Thanks, RAitch. It really makes the colors pop.

I was trying to show this shot close to the way it really looked, just tweaking the areas my camera failed to get right. The noise reduction needs to be done, but I didn't want to lose the subtle details in the cloud patterns. Looks like you were able to keep them.

PS 7.0 doesn't have all the noise reduction tweaks the newer versions have. Which effects did you use?

Those are simply stunning. I wish I could see something like that in person.
