Interesting thread.

I bought the T2i as a backup. I find myself reaching for it a LOT. Nice and light, the high ISO and video !! I always take the to all of my paid gigs but the T2i is with me on all of my personal work.
Now if I had a 7D and a T2i, I would probably take the 7D most of the time.

The T2i is a very capable camera if you do not have the EXTRA cash for a 7D.

What is wrong with Canon QC in newer cameras? T2i, 7D, and 1D4 all have lots of complaints of focus problems.

Really the 7D we use in and out at work with 50K plus shots on it focuses fine? And have not heard too many complaints on the 1D IV so far.....

Often user error - not reading the manual, using inappropriate settings etc.

Don't forget that they are not very forgiving with the pixel densities on the newer sensors!

Thanks kitacannon for the great summary and tips on sharpening. I've always had trouble with sharpening images.

I'm also using the T2I and this thread was pretty helpful. I'm always shooting in AV mode and for some reason after going through this thread it made me want to switch to M. After a couple hours in my backyard, I'm getting the the hang of things. My pictures seem to be coming out a lot sharper than before.

And don't forget those who are obsessed with pixel peeping and then there is those who follow the mantra "Even though I don't know the first thing about photography, I've got a good camera, so it should take good photos"

But THIS thread is clearly a case of user error, as are many other threads.

^^ Bingo. Usually (not all the time), it is not the camera.

No, not as high as the camera can do. Unless you like the really high ISO grain!

Believe me, once we get to the point in technology where sensors don't add any noise of their own, and just count photons, people will fall in love with photon shot noise. It is gorgeous in very low exposures. Film will envy it.

Current read noise, Canon especially, with its banding and weaving, is as ugly as hell.

[...]

Manual mode is often far better for wildlife (IMO) - apart from when the beggars are moving quickly!

That's what auto-ISO is for. It was made for manual exposure mode, IMO. It is rather crippled in current Canons, but hopefully Canon will get it right in future cameras or firmware upgrades (not likely, given their stingy history).

Just so you know where I am coming from I was/am a professional mechanic and there is a phrase that sums up my views on user issues "it is a poor mechanic that blames the tools" I have observed that most problems that are blamed on the camera are not the cameras fault but the user not understanding what their responsibilities are in taking an in focus shot. Manual focus would teach a lot of users how to properly focus on the subject instead of expecting the camera to know what you are wanting to be in focus. Film shooters are aware of this but digital has provided the masses with AF and relatively few ever even attempt manual focus and B---tch if the image isn't crystal clear. I will now step down from my rant pedestal. BTW I love my T2i and the results I get from it if I do my part.
