To Linear or not to Linear

I have struggled with linear vs non-linear. Most of the posts and actions that I have read are about linear.

I have problems reproducing the same quality of photo with linear tifs. I use Yarc+ to convert my raw images and have tried both Fred Mirandas as well as Pekkas actions. I never seem to be able to accomplish the same clairty or color when I convert to non-linear and make adjustments to levels, curves and sharpening myself.

I would appreciate any feedback on the comparisons of each format. It seemed like a lot more work(for the computer....the amount of time to process). I have all together given up on linear tifs.

Thanks
