I hear and read of many people storing DVD/CD backups of their pix "offsite". I'm at the point where I need to also look into that.
So, where do the "pros" store their backups for safekeeping?

Take'em to lunch a couple times a year and store your DVD's in a cool dry place at thier house. Make it a semi-annual event and stick to it. A 40D, a 30D, some nice glass and a great Shooting Partner.

I don't trust CDs or DVDs. Professional wedding photographer, solution architect and general technical guy with multiple Amazon Web Services certifications.
