I just came across a used 7D that looks to be in very good condition. It shows some signs of wear, but overall looks pretty new. I've got until tomorrow to fully inspect it for any problems. Wondering if there are any specific things I should check for, other than the obvious (does it work, scratches, spots, white balance, etc.)?

The one thing I noticed right away, is that the very edges of LCD screen protector (the hard plastic piece, not a removable decal) seem to have air under them or something. I'll post a picture if anybody asks.

Take a range of pictures at different shutter speeds to check if there are an shutter problems.
Use different exposure modes to check on the exposure metering. Take shots using different AF points to make sure all are working adequately. Check for image sharpness, as some 7d's have reported body AF problems. Don't forget to check the video recording and playback.

I'd take some shots at f22, against a light background to see if there are any sensor problems like streaks or any scratches on the anti-aliasing filter. Check inside the mirror box and the battery compartment for any sign of corrosion. Have a look at the ports to see if any are loose, try connecting the camera to a computer and run the eos utility. Is the viewfinder excessively dusty.

Signs of wear, if significant, could indicate camera has been dropped. The lcd screen issue, might have resulted from this lcd cover being replaced.

Make sure you get all the original accessories etc. If the body is less than a year old, try and get a copy of the invoice for warranty purposes.

Post a picture of the lcd screen issue.
