I would add
spend as much as your budget allows - it will a lifetime investment, so avoid the cheap options.
Its better to spend $300 or more and have it survive years if not decades, than buy a $50 Kmart special and discover it was money wasted.

Fur commes out really well in good lighting BTW. Try shooting thedog when the sun is low and youre between the sun and the dog.
BTW don't expect your lenses to keep up with it running, you need USM lenses for that.
