see
http://www.fatwallet.com/t/18/507320/ (external link)

it is a deal from Dell which includes a $20 rebate. Act fast before sale is over.

I have this card and it works great on my G6. Unfortunately, the camera will not take advantage of the higher write speed but it is noticed in my USB 2 card reader connected to a PC.

That's a great deal. The days of a 1gb card considered to be large are over. Only 144 RAW shots in a G6. The only caveat is that many new cameras have switched to SD.

1GB = 80 RAW shots on a 20D =)

I get less but im happier.

You guys should really check out MicroDrives if your cameras can accept a Type II CF card. Ive had great luck with my Hitachi 4 Gig.

MadMesh - Strange! On a 1 GB Sandisk Standard I get 109 shots on the counter of my 20 D in RAW.
The camera is set in M / 100 ISO and formatted in camera. After a shoot there are mostly more shots
than the (109 that the) counter displayed because not every picture is equally large.
Maybee you should try to format (not a quick format) your CF card with a computer and then in the
camera before using your card. This will erase it clean and you wil get more than 80 pictures
in RAW with your 20 D in RAW. Good luck.

MadMesh may be shooting in RAW+JPEG mode.

I've heard the only thing good about a Microdrive is that when you drop it, you don't have to bend over to pick it up.

LOL...

I also think that MadMesh is shooting RAW+JPEG and maybe at it's highest resolution...I shoot RAW+S(JPEG) and have 95 shots on 1Gig CF.

Anybody else tha owns Kingston here...can you share your experience...

I'll share my experience with Dell...IT SUCKS!!! and I have promised myself never to buy fom them again! Customer service...INDIA. Shipping takes forever. Canceling orders imposible (instead they give you soupons that you can use to buy something else and start from the begining with the headache...

Dell rating 0 Starts.

I think the person wanted to comment about the reliability of the microdrive. From what I've read, the solid state compact flash memory is much more durable than the hard drive based microdrive.

On the other hand....many people really like the value benefit of the MD to get more GB/$ than a CF.

MD has an hard drive build in and therefore is more delicate and less durable. If you drop the MD that means that the hard drive inside will shake and its pieces will move making it unable to work.

cheers

Absolutely untrue. I will grant the a CF is more damage resiliant but that statement is a huge exageration. Every IPOD out there has a Hitachi Microdrive in it - and like my sons they get droped all the time - even while running. The can be damaged - but it has to be the right drop at the right angle - and your bad day. This is a way overblown issue.

I got the Kingston 2GB Elite Pro. Not bad, but the speed is noticable even w/ my DRebel compare to the Ultra II, but much faster then the lower end CFs.

Not sure where this kind of stuff is coming from but the drive is rated at 200G operating - 2000G non-operating shock. So unless you all planning on stapping your camera to the front bumber of your car - you don't have any worries about these things dying because the are dropped from 3 feet.

Sandisk Ultras are also rated at 2000g non-operating - the very same as the Microdrive.
