I've just relocated to the UK within the past month, only to discover my 135L can no longer quite reach infinity focus (close, but no cigar). Otherwise the lens performs very well, but it still appears to need repair or calibration.

I was hoping some locals could help me determine which of the following Canon recommended options are the best for lens repair. In other words, which of these options have users had experience with, and what can you recommend? I'd like to avoid overpaying, so perhaps one is a better value and more reputable than another.

Colchester Camera Repair Services - http://www.camera-repair.co.uk (external link)
H. Lehmann Limited - http://www.lehmannsdirect.co.uk (external link)
Canon (UK) RCC - http://www.canon.co.uk (external link)
Fixation - http://www.fixationuk.com (external link)

The above list was found on the Canon website - I am open to other suggestions also.

I've never had the need to use them, but the following seem to get good reviews and are just along the M8 from you. http://www.ajjohnstone.co.uk/ (external link)

We've used Fixation several times for work on lenses (both in and out of warranty) and had excellent results and good turnaround by post every time.

Sincere thanks to you both! I'm still open to suggestions, otherwise I'll soon be calling up Fixation for a quote.

Any suggestions as to what I can expect Fixation to quote for a calibration (assuming that is all that's necessary)?

Knowing this will help prepare me for when I need to send in the lens.

Johnstones in Glasgow gets mixed reviews. My experiences with them have not been great either.

I am a CPS member so use the RCC at Elstree and I have been happy with their service. They have repaired my 1D2n, 300 f4 and 500 f4.

I don't know how useful this will be, but in Feb 2008 we sent them our Canon 24-105 f4 IS and Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS, asking them to check and calibrate if necessary. They checked 70-200, said it was fine and just charged us return postage. 24-105 needed cleaning and recalibration, and they charged us 66.51 GBP.

Other lenses we've sent to them (Canon 24-70 f2.8 and Nikon 24-70 f2.8 ) have been repaired/checked free under warranty.

That's very good news; it seems cheaper than it would be in the States. Thanks for the information!
