This game is to help those of us who are trying to learn new editing tricks.

Here's the breakdown of the game. I will post a picture, re-sized to exactly 1024 pixels maximum on the long side. Outside of being re-sized it has to be unedited...meaning no adjustments to any levels, it has to look like it did as it came out of the camera.

The game will last 72hrs and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.

Also, please keep all comments, be they positive or negative, to yourself until after the game has ended.

If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read "Before & After #305".

To try to get a few more participants I'm going to extend this Before and After to 4 days instead of the regular 3 and let's try to bump the thread throughout the contest.

Please remember to post your enteries reduced in size to 1024 pixels on the longest edge

Contest will end on Monday Aug 9th @ 6pm est - Good Luck

Opened in ACR. Increased exposure. Tweak to recovery and vibrance
Opened in CS4. Duplicated Background. Straightened and cropped.
Makeover on man's face with gaussian blur, layer mask and painted back in eyes, nose and mouth.
Took out yellow on teeth. Slight blur on girl's left arm. New layer filled 50% grey and darkened down doorway and lightened man's shirt. Cloned out leaves above man's head. "Ironed" girl's dress a bit. Gaussian blur on background. Unsharp mask 100% 1px threshold 3.
Added 6px white stroke and 1px black.

I worked this up a couple of days ago and forget all the steps but I'll try to recap:

cropped and cloned in some of the edges to even things out so I didn't have to crop too much -cloned out some of the tree leaves

used the color picker to select the dress and then changed the color a little

I duped the image and added a little blur to the background layer and sharpened the subjects a little

I tried to give the image a sunset / golden glow

Started with levels and curves. Then Cloned small spots on both faces, and all the leaves above. Then used light gaussian blur, and erased around the clothing, eyes, and lips. Made a couple final exposure adjustments. Saved.
