I don't like connecting my Rstrap directly to my tripod collar because I'm worried it will eventually wear out the paint.

Would it be ok to attach a Manfrotto plate and connect to the ring on the underside?

Will it handle the weight ok?

this wedding photographer i assisted two weekends ago use the tripod plate instead of FastenR-2 or 3 (not sure which one he has). he works every weekend.. few times 3 days in a roll (friday, sat and sun) shooting weddings. i did asked him about the plate and he said no problem. I personally use the FastenR-3.

Which FastenR are you using? The current offerings from Black Rapid have a rubber washer between the metal and the camera body or lens collar. That shouldn't wear the paint. The original FastenR shouldn't wear the paint either if it's properly attached.

There have been mixed opinions on using the ring on a Manfrotto plate to attach the R-Strap. Some people have done it with no issues and some others are concerned the ring will pull out of the plate. The FastenR-2 uses the same type ring and it's what I use. I've had no issues with it at all.

Probably the best overall bet is the FastenR-3...

I have the FastenR 2 right now. The FastenR 3 looks good.

The only think is I will eventually be getting a Manfrotto tripod so using the plate might save me a little money.

Might have to pick up the FastenR 3 though :)

I've been doing the same as the wedding photographer mentioned above. Travelled all over Europe and SE Asia with the RS-2 connected to the D-ring of the RC2 Manfrotto plate all day, every day. No worries.

I use my manfrotto plate with my sun sniper strap to save having to remove the QR plate all the time. No issues so far and I cant imagine It'd ever be a problem

i am in the process of trying to see if this setup will work. What i'm doing is trying to take the screw off of the manfrotto plate and use the screw with my photoclam plate. However i noticed that the screw is probably a 1mm taller than the plate itself so i have to wait until my photoclam ballhead comes in to see if the plate and d ring screw will work. I really hope so.

I'm certainly not as deep into photography as 95% of the people here, but this reminds me of people who want pristine hoods. Worried about wearing out the paint? These are all tools to be used. I mean I understand, but sheesh.

Anyways, I've never had any problem connecting the Rstrap to a variety of points. Though I've since moved onto a Luma Loop. (I want something that's a cross between the two)

helps resale value. i don't care about the hood but the paint would make resale easier.

It is quite easy to take the ring off the Manfrotto plate.

I would not trust my camera to that attachment method.

For further consideration, I have a friend who had the tripod threads on his 1Dmk2 pop out....to much taking on/off a Manfrotto plate is suspected. This may be a "one off" but I suspect it points to this point was not designed to take a pulling stress, which the R-strap would cause even greater stress.
