Which wide-angle lens should i choose?

Hello,

though i am a German visitor i prefer this side over some German sites. Especially the example pictures of the lenses are much better here.

The problem now is i cant decide which of these lenses i should choose (comments in brackets):

Canon 10-22mm (quite expensive),
Tokina 11-16mm 2.8,
Tokina 12-24mm 4.0 II (my favorite, especially because it would fit my other lenses well)
Sigma 10-20mm f3.5 EX
Sigma 10-20mm f4.0-5.6 EX
Sigma 12-24mm f4.5-5.6 EX (quite expensive too, how is it compared to the Tokina)
Tamron 11-18mm f/4.5-5.6 Di (should be quite bad overall)
Tamron 10-24mm

My other lenses are: 28-75 2.8, 150mm 2.8, 85mm 1.8 (planned)

The most important thing is image quality and resolution. Also important are the build quality, fast AF, and innerlens focusing...

My camera is a Crop-Camera. 450D

If the Tokina 12-24 is your favourite, then buy it. It's a terrific lens in every respect, and IMHO is greatlay under-rated and a real bargain for the price. I love mine; it's sharp, gives great colour and contrast, is built like a tank and has a very useful range. And at half the cost of its f/2.8 brother (the 11-16), it's hard to go wrong with it.

The Tokina 12-24 is a great lens and it's not expensive also. If f/4 is fast enough for you then go for it.

I have had both the Tokina 12-24 and Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6 and both are great. The only advice I would give is that 10mm is quite a bit wider than 12, but 24mm is not much longer than 20 or 22. So don't fret to much about the longer end of the range.

The only lens option I see missing from your list is the Tamron 10-24, which is getting pretty decent reviews as well. Worth a look, but I haven't used it.

When I get my UWA lens I'll be looking for either

1. EF 10-22 f/3.5-4.5 USM or
2. Tokina 11-16 f/2.8

Right now I'm leaning towards the Tokina due to:
* Its cheaper price,
* Comes with a lens hood at no extra cost, and
* Fixed 2.8 maximum aperture

New new version (II) of the Tokina 12-24mm is said to be very good. Does anyone own the new one or has a comparison between the old and new one?

Is the Tokina/Sigma as good as the Canon or better/worse?

Sigma 10 - 20 all the way.......

Either of the Tokina's (11-16 2.8/12-24 F4) would be my recommendation. The 12-24 is a crazy good lens for the price. It's the only thing I miss about shooting with a crop body.

Tokina 11-16mm AMAZING lens... Definitly worth buying...

if you have a 450D now, and you are considering going FF soon... then the best choice is the Sigma 12-24mm, its insane in FF (the widest non fisheye lens for FF).

otherwise, I think either of the Tokinas are great... specially the 11-16mm (everybody, everywhere are raving about it).

So they are all quite equally? I can´t believe that...

I think you should decide between the Tokina 12-24, 10-20/3.5, or 11-16.

Why?

Why not the Canon for example?

- The 10-22 is expensive and isn't much better (if at all) than the Sigma competitors
- I'd take the Tokina 12-24 over the Sigma because it's constant f-stop and takes front filters
- The Sigma 10-20/3.5 is constant f-stop and is better than the 4-5.6 version
- The 11-16 is f/2.8 if you need it, and is relatively inexpensive considering that it's f/2.8 and very good optically.

I don't know anything about the Tamrons, so I can't say anything about those.

I totally agree. I love my Mark-I 12-24mm Tokina and the Mark II is supposed to be slightly more flare resistant. However, I haven't have a whole lot of flare problems with the Mark I but, that is probably because I always shoot with tha lens hood on (supplied by Tokina free of charge - not so with Canon) and also a factor of they way in which I use the lens.
