This doesn't work for me. There are times when a rear profile works, but in this case, I am wanting to see her expression. Just my humble opinion ;-)a
Lighting is also quite harsh

Why do I have the urge to flip the image over and look at it from the front?

Pictures taken from the rear only work in my judgment when we also see what the person is looking at, say, a beautiful sunset. The viewer then enters the mind of the subject and it feels more personal. Otherwise, not having the eyes in a person's picture severely drains its impact.

Also, become more aware of tilted horizons. They are especially distracting in water shots.

It may be no sunset, but rather shock and awe of the open water and waves, she's gonna be 3 and has never been to Lake Michigan, thanx for the critical comments.

On the up side, she's in focus, and well exposed. You captured a precious moment in her life. You should be happy with that and not worry too much about technical aspects.
