Hi, hope this is the appropriate category for this question.......

I have just bought a 55-250mm Canon EF-S lens and would also like to get a lens hood to go with it. Trouble is, I need some guidance as to whether a 'flower' shape hood or the 'full' hood is best. In other words, which type of lens hood should I buy?

I am a novice at this hobby and welcome any advice....

Thanks in anticipation.

You want to use the hood that is designed forthat lens. This lens uses the canon ET-60 hood, order that or a knock off of that hood.

I believe the front (where the hood attaches) on that rotates. At any event, it takes the same hood as the 75-300, Canon's ET-60, which is a full hood. You would not use a petal hood on any lens where the front rotates, as the cutouts won't stay at the correct orientation.

I have the ET-60 knockoff for mine. $5.85, free shipping. Ships from China, expect it in about 14 days to the US. Fits well.

Thanks again. I have found these items on eBay and was wondering what they are like. I can get one for just over £2 GBP including shipping! Worth trying methinks!

Some knockoffs don't have the flocking on the inside to deflect unwanted light. Be careful there.

The ET-60 is just plastic, no flocking.

Then a knockoff might work.
