Did I buy the right filter?

Filter arguments aside, assuming I WANTED to buy a general UV filter for protection... I ordered this one with my Sigma 30 f/1.4. Is that right?

Thanks, wasn't sure the haze part was right for "general use". What's sad is it cost basically the same as the ProMaster filters I've been getting from the local B&M that probably aren't anywhere near as good.

B+W MRC are good, top quality filters. You done good.

Read the sticky about "protection filters"...

I have a bunch of B+W, including that exact filter in various sizes... that all live stored in my camera bag until there's something to actually protect my lenses from (sand storm? sea spray? wet puppy noses? sticky fingered chilluns?).

I don't know ProMaster filters... they might be good quality too... or not. Cheap filters often make nice coasters to protect your coffee table from condensation dripping off your icy cold beer!

I've also heard a lot of good about Hoya filters too on this site but I prefer B+W's use of brass.

The promasters are multi-coated at least. They're not crap from my personal experience but I do think my local B&M marks them up a LOT.
