I took this shot after a thunderstorm passed through our farm. I was using my 200mm Takumar with a 2X Soligor teleconverter with an adapter. Everything was handfocused, and this was the only shot where I got the focus where I wanted. I had to pull the rainbow out of the RAW that I worked with since it was fairly washed out, although it was converted to JPEG for here. I think I may have had a too small f-stop at around 3, and I'm not really keen on the other cows in the background. Should I try to clone them out or leave them? Is it even worth keeping period?

I like it, too. It looks a stop or two under-exposed, and maybe a hair "warm". It would have, maybe, looked a bit better at a smaller f-stop for more depth, or a polarizing filter (those are amazing for rainbows!), but given what you got I think it's pretty nice.

I like it, but guess cloning out just the cow on the right would be an improvement.

LOL, I spotted that right after I had saved the file. Gotta love the cow butt, but yes, it is distracting. Eric, I thought it may look a tad yellow and warm myself. I have Elements 8, and it definitely does wonders. I had left exposure alone, but I'll see if bumping it up helps. I think I just need to play a little bit more with the image. Poor cow, 'cause I know she had to be uncomfortable. We are due to start having our fall babies in about a week, and you can see that hers has dropped into position by the hollows right in front of her hips. Several of them behind her are the same way.

I think cloning out all the cows in the background would be a benefit, kind of comical even (to me), but not really necessary.

Cowbutt fer sure, but also the red ear tag on one of the cows to the left, but other cows could remain - what'd'yer think?

I had thought the red tag was a little distracting as well. Glad someone else pointed it out. Seems like my eye always wants to go to it. Getting some great ideas that I had kind of been seeing, but it's wonderful to get some other opinions!

I had some spare time and I found the photo delicious, hope you don't mind me editing the picture... With saturated sky, removal of cows and bump down the shadows to regain some details in the cow

Ooooooo.... I really like it. I do believe I am going to do just that. I had sat'ed the sky before, but I was scared to really push it. Image editing on ANY of my shots is just fine. And you did a GREAT job. So now I know what I'm going to do today, LOL!

So, here is MY rework. Now I'm wondering if it is on the cool side, but I wasn't getting any warnings of clipping shadows, so IDK? I think I DO like it better, though.

I think you should have shot at higher f-stop to get that rainbow better. But I do like both edited versions, with the single cow

I agree, totally, but I wasn't thinking until it was too late, and the rainbow had faded. These were my first attempts at capturing rainbows, so I know what to do next time, for sure!

With the look in that cow's eyes, I would have been looking for a fence right about the time this shot was taken. But then again, I'm no expert on cows. At least it wasn't a bull.

Rainbows are tough enough without putting them out of focus.

LOL, most of our bulls are big babies who just want a big bucket of feed. This cow was just fine. She was curious about that clicking object in front of my face, plus, I was in our truck. Our bulls will come to you from the field and follow you like a big dog. We've had several that you could sit on. Wouldn't try that with any of our cows. We have to handle the bulls more than the cows, so we work with them a lot more.

Very nice photo! Here is my edit, sorry - couldn't resist. Obviously OTT, but its how I like it. Hope you don't mind.

EDIT* I'm sorry my Lightroom automatically puts a watermark on photos, if you want me to remove it let me know, sorry!
