okay, so I have a couple places that I go to shoot that don't have nice low lying ceilings that are white. They either have black ceilings or the ceiling is 20-30 feet up in the air.

Also in a couple of the places the subjects are sweating a little (dancing) and it makes it difficult to get good shots without a lot of glares on them from the perspiration.

I've been working with mostly foamies (craft foam sheets that I cut and mess with to get a bounce on the subject to soften the light a little. This has been working alright but the results tend to be inconsistent and the foam sheet material looks a bit unprofessional. So I'm looking for suggestions as to what I should be using instead.

So I've been looking at the following:
Pro Max 80-20 System (external link)

But they want 50+ for this one and I don't really think it's worth that much... IDK though, what do you think? I like it mainly for the reason it has the diffusion panel and the silver card insert. the silver would help with less light loss in combination with the diffusion panel.

The other alternative is:
Lumiquest LQ-125 ProMAx Pocket Bouncer Silver Gold Kit (external link)

But it doesn't have a diffusion panel, so it kind of defeats the purpose a little.

My questions are would the diffusion panel make that much of an improvement in softening the light or would it just not really matter? Also if I were to use the silver insert would I be looking at any negatives from just that?

I've also been thinking of a gary fong lightsphere and just placing some foil inside it on the back side to direct the light forward so that I could get more light forward and have less light lost.

let me know what you guys think a good solution would be to get good light and still look professional at the same time without having to carry around a small softbox or something, lol.

I am an advocate of the Lumiquest ProMax System which includes the 80/20, the insert panels, and the diffusion panel. I also use that system on a camera rotating bracket which maintains the orientation of the flash head.

The 80/20 is generally what I use. If a panel is inserted it is the white panel. The silver and gold will give some specular highlights and are quite effective, just not my style.

The diffusion panel I found worthless. Too much light loss for too little gain. The only thing that will soften light is to increase the apparent size of the light relative to the subject. The diffusion panel doesn't do that.

I did get a chuckle out of your 'foam sheet material looks a bit unprofessional' comment followed shortly by the use of the a Gary Fong lightsphere......Stuffed with foil no less.
