Pham

shot of the baby is what I'm talking about with regards to contrasting light. Baby really pops on the shots. Probably because the backdrop is darker. The shot you posted, she does not stand out as much so it looks flat on my monitor. Otherwise, i think its a great set up.

Here is how its done Boys and girls.

I have a photovison suscription and i see things that are good and i see things that are very poor. Beth Forester and Kevin Hudson have been on my radar for a couple of years when it come to great looking indoor senior photography. This is where we are taking our indoor seniors work for 2012 so I thought I would share before everyone start asking about lighting patterns. Added Bonus is Joel Grimes,, the guy is very good.

So yeah, I'm breaking down and Buying one because there is nothing that is like the Eye lighter and Ive been Micky mousing around trying to get the look and it just cant be done w/o one. So if you want to get this look in these videos, you got to bite the bullet.

Check out the video, lighting clearly demonstrated and it will help some of you with your lighting patterns. Joel Grimes gets into great detail as to how its done from his perspective. These guys are the best of the best when it comes to this type of senior photography. Especially Beth Forester.

if you make it out of wood, you could do a laminate curve, or get a solid piece and use a whole bunch of kerf cuts to curve it. if you want to make one out of aluminum, the easiest thing is probably just to take it to a fabrication shop and have them roll bend some 3/4" square tube.

Nice shot Pham. Stop it down 1 stop and see if you can get some more contrast with the lights. I love your studio. This little project of mine is starting to get expensive:mad:.

Beth forester is so good. Her studio is amazing and man does she have the propsbw!. Im very excited and cant wait to get these reps in here in the next few weeks. What grimes does is so simple to do. But you got to have the right stuff. If you slow those videos down, you can see exactly what they do and where they set the lights. After you see it its like DUH..very simple and straight forward.

Grimes has two videos on Kelby which shows his whole process, some very interesting techniques.

There was a long discussion about making one of these in another thread. I think the best solution was some thin cvpc piping to support the reflector.

Yep....I bent it my little self. It was an 8ft aluminim bar from Menard's. Cost me $20. I cut off two feet and bent it. SUPER easy to make and it is lightweight. I've had no problems with holding the curve and you guys have seen plenty of the results.

Hi Tiffany, What is the reflective surface? I heard bubble wrap. Did you put foil over it/

So I watched the videos of the eye catcher, looks like a great product.. how much is this thing?

Advantages I see this reflector product does Is: provide bottom half lighting without weird catch lights.

Has any customers or seniors ever stated that they had weird catch lights in their eyes? (when doing a clamshell lighting? Say with 2 umbrella’s - > me not so much

Just curious, I think we as photos are super critical vs normal customers/clients , so is it really worth it for your flow?

@ tiff, nice DIY bottom half clam shell reflector
