Nathan, that first shot is killer. Great job.

Many thanks Shane! I was very excited to come home and edit these shots. That hasn't happened in a while. Hoping to get out again this week to shoot a senior-style shoot as practice. :)

I recently had a senior session on the North Shore near Lutsen, MN. She is a dancer, here is one from the session.

Lighting was an AB800 with a 32x40 softbox.

What were your camera settings?

Her left foot seems slightly blurry... I can't tell if it's oof (out of dof plane) or subject movement. Thanks.

Way to go Scott. that's the set up i use a lot. Works better with a 1600 on bright days so I always take both strobes with me...works pretty trick doesn't it:lol:,,,,get some flex TT5's and get prepared to get blown away with faster shutter speeds and hypersynch

Thanks Mike. I had a 1600 with me but didn't need it at this time of day. I did use it earlier in the day for some river shots like this:

It's subject movement. She was only in this position for a fraction of a second and my shutter was 1/200, tough to freeze all motion at that speed. Also there was very little light from the strobe on that foot.

Scott. If that is middle of the day bright sun, i think you nailed the exposure. maybe an ND for some more contrast with the light or a circular, but thats really good for F/16 light:)

If you shoot more to the right, I've noticed the left suffers just a bit much to be acceptable. Once in post the shadows can be rectified over the highlights to even the middle balance off center.

Yes, the river shot is midday sun - about 11:00. I shot f/2.8 with two ND filters, a .6 and a .9. I'd like to pick up another 1.8 but with the recent acquisition of a Mk III, it's going to have to wait a bit.

Mike,

I can shoot (fake) HSS, up to 1/8000, with my Radio Popper Px transmitter on an ST-E2 triggering a JRx receiver on an Alien Bee. However, I tried my ST-E2 on my 5D3 and it wouldn't fire. Anyone know of issues with an ST-E2 on a 5D3?

Edit: I'm always doing that - check out the newest-to-me post, then commenting without realizing there are two more pages of new posts... The comment below was directed to Converseman's posts on page 522...

I like the lighting in the first one much better. In the last two, I think you're getting some red reflection off the bricks, which is possibly part of what is making you not like the colors... Also, while it's not overly harsh, I don't like the shadow from his nose on the last two shots. Not that it's bad, mind you, just not my personal preference...

My favorite aspect about the first image is the perspective. It's unique without being strange. And the composition forces my eye right at his face. Nicely done :)

I'm helplessly awaiting your post into the 5D3 thread Tiff, I announced your purchase to the crowd a couple weeks ago.
