around here there seems to be a few ambassador/spokesmodel programs by various photographers, I know of a couple and I think I offer better rewards, last years was outstanding $500 off *charged $200* and I still had some go with another studio like the one that the high school goes through that offered garbage rewards. but everyone knows the school photographer and has their pics done for the yearbook.

One thing sal said that I need to work on is better educating the spokesmodels on how to get the appointments.

Who else is watching the sid video? Mine keeps timing out and I hae to refresh it.

I loved the info on the destination photography, ive always wondered how to get that started. His approach is a bit risky but he has a point, no one is going to pay $300 for him and $500 in travel not to buy any more prints, worst case you break even and maybe next time you can get a few sets of people to go with you. I may have to setup a VA beach destination event, ive always wanted to do a portrait there and its only 7 hours away. :)

Im not sure his advice on permits is the best though :D

Missed that part, can you elaborate more (about destination and permits)?

with permits he doesnt bother, he goes to a popular spot that needs a permit, shoots what he can before the person gets to them and then leaves, he says it adds excitement to the customer and they love it. and he has an assistant go in and block the person and say "oh im so sorry, I didnt realize we needed a permit".

for destinations he just goes where people want to go, and doesnt charge extra for it beyond the $300 travel session fee. he will fly to nyc, chicago, la, etc. he figures teh sales will more than make up for the travel expenses, and he says he averages $2500 on portrait sales on the destination ones.

He also said if you are weary about doing this, try some where closer that you can drive to, say a city that is 3 hours away.

Permits can be cheap or realy expensive as they mainly started from Movie folks for what I understand. But having permits, insurance etc are nice for business.

Really? I assumed you used a flash with a 1cm snoot to shoot light only in the whites of the eyes like a laser beam. Silly me.

(Love your work Tiff. If you really did do this, Id be building a 1cm snoot tomorrow.)

I cant believe I just sat infront of a seminar for 6 hours, it doesnt feel like it, I now have a huge notepad document to consider. I def think I am going to change my packages, his are so much simpler than mine. And I think I may have to raise my package prices and maybe even my sitting fee just to be able to offer that 50% discount. Right now if I were to offer 50% of my sitting fee, they would only save $25 and not be that motivated to make an appointment.
