I've never done this but can it be used like a laptop to show the photos immediately? Just wondering how or if this will work.

It works ok, but a bit buggy. Sometimes you have to wait 10-15 seconds before the image shows up, sometimes it is quicker. It is also buggy getting it to work in the first place, at least it was for me.
