If they really are making $3000 per portrait multiple times a week then thats pretty good and rockstar worthy. and im sure you get bored after a while of doing the same thing repeatedly so they are trying new things out, but I doubt the teaching pays as much as the portraits, but I have no clue how many $150 workshop classes they sell.
One of them were saying the national average for a portrait is $900, but that doestn seem right with all the cheap photographers out there. Years ago when I was unemployed and starting out in photography I tried to get Canada unemployment to help out with the college classes *friends I knew tried and got "scholarship"* and they looked up the average income for photographers and it was to close to min wage for them to help me.
