For I-books you can also email the PDF to yourself then open it with the email program, (in the Iphone, etc) then save it in ibooks, I have my camera manual saved in there as well.

I got this one: http://cgi.ebay.com …agename=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT (external link)

Cheaper.....wasn't something I was sure I was going to like so I didn't want to invest big $$ in it.

wow, that thing looks pretty slick. Does it actually give off enough light and what about the color of the light? Is it actually 5400k or is the actual light color off more than that?

I truly appreciate all you have contributed to this thread sevilla, your work in general has truly inspired me over the last few months. I have been working very hard to try to reproduce not only your work but as many others in here as possible. There is just so much great stuff in this thread and it gets better and better every day.

As for the Cheater books, yeah, I've been doing this since I found this thread when it was still fairly new, lol. I save the images to a folder that is automatically sinked to my android phone using dropbox. If you don't have a dropbox account you are so behind in your ease of everything to do with auto-sinked files. lol.
Here is my referral link for them:

You start off with 2GB of data for free but can easily increase that amount for free as well. Just follow the steps. It's great for stuff like this, I have the app on all my computers and phone. It's a tiny little application that runs in the background and will auto transfer and update files from and to whatever computers you have your account setup on. It's perfect for stuff like this that you want as a portable resource at any given time without having to email and hassle around with doing the same action on multiple devices just to have the same information available where ever you like.

I also use this for my files like:
what to wear
what not to do
and so on

So that all I have to do when talking to a potential client is just email it directly to them and whoever will be photographed so that all is said and done on the spot. I don't have to carry papers with me at all, which is a major bonus... other than contracts, of course.

Granted I'm still new/starting out in this realm and I've only been getting the occasional client but in the process I have been refining everything that I do as I continue to not only read this thread and many others on this forum. I wanted to invest in new lenses but I'm finding that I might just be concentrating on lighting first as that seems to be my biggest problem at this time, not enough power...

PS: I will be sharing some of my recent work as soon as I stop messing around on this forum and start processing the work that I spent most of Saturday and Sunday doing... lol.

Hey Bone,

I did find the light from the cheapo ringlight to be about 5600K...at least that's what I set my WB to and was happy with the results. =)

It gives off a lot of light....I used ISO 100, f/2.0, 1/160 for my settings but I will probably raise the ISO next play. I was pretty happy with how it turned out for what I'm using it for and the kids think it's cool which is all that really matters.

That's surprising and not bad figures at all....

hell at ISO 200 you could easily get an even larger DOF if needed. but F/2 is a great / for portrait shooting, IMO.

I kind of like that catch light in the eye, it gives a cool effect IMO. I need to get some in door shoots going though, I've been doing all mine outdoors.

@ BoneJi,

go ahead and go with your statement , Spend money on lighting first then the L lens.

for the win, if you have the money, just get the Elinchrom Quadra with Deep Oct system with the faster action head.. <<<<----- this was my best bang for the buck for power and versatility.

but what i just stated is about $2200 in cost though.. think of it as an investment. depending if your very busy, you can recover that in one season and not look back

I would love to go that route but I'm going to go with the Einsteins, I really like everything that I have been reading about them and they seem to be majorly well reviewed with lots of people loving the results from them.

Oh man

our new assistant's husband is a techie:eek:

he just took a car battery and a converter box and made a home made vagabond for about $130.00.... stay tuned. That thing looked trick and the model lights worked on the AB lighting;). we are going to take it out in about 2 weeks for some fun in the sun. Hoping the 800's will work in afternoon light

@ Mike.. to make a home made vagabond.. you need a pure sine invertor if not you will damage your AB800...

yes, this is true, unless he's using a Pure Sine power converter you will do damage to the sensitive electronics of a strobe.

If the converter doesn't say it on the label it's not. Don't plug your ABs or any other strobe into it if so. You might get away with it for a little while but it will eventually screw you hard.

I just picked up a used Tronix Explorer 1200ws for $150....deals occasionally pop up. I must be stronger than I think because it weighs 15 lbs but it doesn't seem that heavy to me...I guess the real test will be when I used it for an extended period in the field.

I hooked up two Calumet Travelite 750 strobes and they fired with no problems even though they exceeded the rated capacity of the battery pack. With the strobes turned down to half power the recycle time was about two seconds and at full power about 12 seconds. Of course the recycle times were much faster with just one strobe.

I was actually looking at this one here:

http://www.amazon.com …TRWTV&colid=37INV8A0U7ZS4 (external link)

Last night, lol

but yeah it looks like someone has already been using it for the same purposes... he says he even gets better power with it than he does from his house, lol. I can understand that though, the power I get in my house isn't all that clean either.

If you search the Lighting forum you'd see that Samlex is the most recommended inverter brand.

I just did a quicky search and the price on their units aren't all that bad really...

http://www.amazon.com …1297875133&sr=1-1-catcorr (external link)

206 for a 600w unit. It even has a low battery voltage alarm, that's a pretty cool feature right there.
