Craig those are nice. A couple look a bit dark to me....and the chin shadow is harsh on the flag one but the first one is lovely. I hope you got some where she is looking at you as well and you can see her eyes.

Tiffany. Was wondering about the fur hood shots if they were too dark. Did a little brightening on it.

We did get some with eye contact, I will post a couple up when I get to them editing.

As for the harsh shadow, well.....Ummmm...I missed it when shooting the flag set. Was my first time using a grid on the speedlite and was so worried about the harsh shadow behind her against the flag, that I missed the one cast by her chin. Ironically, it is her favorite shot so far (about half way through the edits).

Thanks as always for the advice.

perhaps you can get some shoots of your own, and use that. plus it could be extra income. :)

I signed a 'no compete contract' so I can not do any side jobs for money, (but I have done some little kid shots for family for free that I could show you, but not in this thread... lol)

CT, I keep looking at this shot and the same thing keeps going through my head..... Her face just looks SO long. Technically it is beautiful- the lighting is awesome, the processing is beautiful, I just wonder if there may have been a more flattering angle for the shape of her face.

I always do that.

You all make me feel SO much better. thank you

Ok....I got this PM and thought I'd answer publicly in case anyone else was wondering.

. I mainly try to short light when I do light and also try and get a little light on the hair to make it pop.

When you say "short light" what exactly do you mean?
Also when using OCF, what are you using and how are you triggering it?

Again thank you for all the help, and I love the MCP actions.

cbknight the 1st one is awesome.

I'd like to ask those of you in this thread to take a look over at this other thread:

It's my debate on selecting my first major modifier for the Einstein that I just ordered.

If you know your stuff about modifiers please do chime in over there.

humm don't know what to say.. it might be the optical illusion being her hair covers some of the face..

i am using these for my triggers for 2011.. Cactus V5's..

and for the elinchrom system - skyports are the default choice as triggers

Thank you so much for those links... I think I FINALLY get it. lol

I checked out these (external link), and I see they're not TTL (so I assume they're noy ettl either)

I was thinking you always used ETTL so am I looking at the wrong thing?
Also, do I have the option of using a on camera flash, and triggering another? I want to get into this, but I do not have a technical mind...lol
I learn by doing (over and over again... OOOhhh look at the birdie! jk)

One thing I do know from following you on FB is that when I do Get out on my own I want to be cordless both in and out of studio.

Thank you so much for you time. I know how busy you are.

No NO ETTL is evil.. i talk about it here

"4. As part of the photography industry, what is one thing every photographer should stay away from? My opinion is to stay away from anything that is Auto or Ettl in lighting. The high tech ETTL may sound great for beginners but really Manual Triggers and Manual Lights are what the beginners should be using. There is no replacement for lighting fundamentals. My goal was to be able to walk into a room, a set, or an outdoor location, and engineer a one light set up in manual (camera, and Flash) with limitations of shutter speeds under 1/200 and make a good photo all under 5 mins, and if you can’t do this under 5 mins, I would recommend spending some time learning or training yourself so you can get good exposures in bright conditions or even at night with a one light solution in manual. It is really a must for you to have this fundamental stobist skill before you start working with clients or even hobbist level, having this fundamental strobist skill will make your personal work more rewarding."

Great exposure and interview pham. Especially liked the things we didnt know about you.

I was a 5.5 uspta player and taught as well. Miss it terribly but had to stop due to injuries. 21 years of tournament tennis wore out a knee and lower back--- sucks-- but i love the game. Have not hit a ball in 8 years. A good 4.0 would wipe me off the court now:lol:

ETTL- has its limitations, but i use it at times. If you have not read Syl Arena's speedlighters handbook, grab a copy. It only 35.00 and has changed my thinking on ETTL. While manual is often preferred, ETTL mode, off camera flash set ups, are going to be extremely valuable especially when its combined with HSS. Im excited about experimenting with it when all this fricken snow starts to melt. Bobby is doing some great stuff with these set ups. ETTL is another tool when used right will give some additional options.
