I finally read the pdf of 7 steps by dave meir, its not quite as informative as I thought it would be. I was expecting more marketing advice and the only details it gave was facebook. it does mention direct mail but it ended with that. It does provide alot of info for starting a business, about registering a name and filing for a tax number which is good for the extreme beginners. He does talk a bit about advertising on facebook. I was hoping for a few offline tips.

the posing guide seems interesting so far *only on page 38 of 283* and its very interesting to see his studio, I love the swinging walls. I haven't seen lockers at my local salvation army though, be cool to.

im not a big fan of the locker shot. Its really way overdone. I would rather go on location and to the school if they really want that shot.plus you would probably have to have the space to be abe to move them in and out of a set up, something i dont have at this point.

they took the lockers from the salvation army apart, and attached the faceplate and doors to a wall, so its only a couple inches thick, and its one of his swinging walls, so minimal space required. It might be over done but if they like it and want it, then so be it. :)

"My goal was to be able to walk into a room, a set, or an outdoor location, and engineer a one light set up in manual (camera, and Flash) with limitations of shutter speeds under 1/200 and make a good photo all under 5 mins

I re-read the whole interview and brain immediatly said. "if it's bright outside I can't shoot at 2.8 at under 1/200 unless I'm in the shade can I? maybe I'm missing something"

Perhaps if the subject were backlit an I used fill flash the bkg would be blown, but the face would be lit right?

ARRgh! My brain hurts..lol (and I like it);)

Last question... your ONE LIGHT is your deep octa right? Are you allowed to use a reflector or does it count as light #2 ? lol

(my boss is pretty set in his ways, and really isn't interested OCF at all. Of course he doesn't have to be because no one in my area does it at all.)

thank you

If its bright outside, you wont be shooting at f/2.8 at 200-- never going to happen. You will need ND filters and probably still wouldnt be able to do it. Thats the beauty of the new pocket wizards. F/2.8 can be achieved with 1/1000 shutter speeds for shallow depth shots. Take your camera out, put your flash on your camera and put it in HSS so it will expose at higher shutter speeds. you will get it figured out.

Then you can get some triggers and move it off the camera;)

Why would you need to put a 602 in place if you have a ettl cable? Isnt there a place on the camers to put the cable directly? On the flash?

(not a knock, I really don't know.)

this is very true and a good alternative. just have to be careful and not trip on the cable.

yep true, have a 3m long cable and it feels short on some ocassion (not the spiral one as that one tends to pull the setup if strecthed)
Will be using it till i buy RP or PW

Why i use the rf602 instead of the cable: to avoid tripping the light stand, to have have flexibility in my movement and gear placement. And I use the cable only if i have to do HSS or ettl or in case I am holding camera in one hand and flash in the other to get some level of OCF if I cant use the full light set-up.

In all due fairness he does sometimes use a reflector.
here's the website http://prescottphoto.net/ (external link)
(although nothing but the on-line ordering and albums ever get updated)

I guess I'll just go ahead and admit that I don't know what HSS is, but it sounds good.

The only images I really care for are his natural light images, lol. The rest are so flat...

He of course uses lights in the studio (just not outside or at weddings or sports stuff)... I probably should have mentioned that.
He does a great job, and I'd be happy to be even close to as good as he is. I just have a different style, and for the things we differ on I have all of these wonderful people. I'm actually pretty lucky to have someone to ask questions at work.
