I recently switched from Nikon TO CANON.
In the switch i purchased a Tamron 17-50 2.8 VC lens.
I am not familiar w/these lenses.
Should i be able to see the electronics inside the lens, when the lens is not on my camera??
I have a picture of the lens, when it is not mounted and i zoom in, i can see everything inside the barrel of the lens.
IS THIS NORMAL??
HELP!
i don't want to send it back if this is correct, but not sure.

That does not look normal; there should be some plastic rings in there with the lens contacts, and all you should see is the glass and aperture opening.

Did you buy the lens used or refurbished? And when it is mounted, does it work?

I purchased this lens brand new from Adorama. 2 weeks ago.
It works on the camera yes. I am worried that with it being exposed, it will have a better chance of getting dirt and such inside.

WELL, According to a Tamron Rep. that is completely normal and I can continue to use the lens with out any issues.

This is the VC model however, not the NON-VC.
The response from Tamron was this:

"Correct , all parts are contained by the black plastic ring connected to the metal mount. Please note it is normal to see the circuit board when the lens is extended. When not in use , just remember to put front and rear caps to prevent dust from entering the lens."
