As part of my support for a local football team (soccer) I took some promo shots of the new home and away kits and here are two of them.

Essentially we went to a local playing field but being before the season proper no lines or posts are up yet. Was expecting to get rained off but instead we were treated to a glorious sky which I couldnt help but use for the background.

Canon 40D with 24-70 F2.8L. Key light 580EXII in brollybox at 1/1 cametra left. Fill light 430EX brolly at 1/8 camera right.

Camera on manual and settings were something like F5 to F6.1 to correctly expose flash and about 1/160th to underexpose sky by a stop or so.

Feel of the shoot was supposed to be moody and 'ard'. We tried some smiley shots but didnt really work.

First thread here so please excuse me if broken any rules. C&C welcome.

Nice shots.

Looks like a guy who's lost his team.

I like the way the lighting is balanced. Just enough ambient light to make out the greenery, the sunset isn't lost and he is lit perfectly. Well-done.

for promo shots, they fail to make me excited to go to any games...if anything it makes me want to avoid watching.

technically though, i do like the shots, i just wish he looked more excited.

Both shots hide the team name/sponsor on the jersey. And yes, he looks like he just lost 0:5 in the first one :).

Instead of cradling the ball, have him grab it more from the top or even behind, like this:

Or go with a more traditional pose like this:

Or this...

In all we took about 30 images in many different poses, emphasising the four different sponsors one of which includes the team name. The two originally posted here were I would say the most 'dramatic' of the bunch and of course don't reflect the versatility of the whole set.

A few other examples are here which show off the main sponsor (and team name) and have the more traditional pose as noted by int2str. Plus one showing off the great socks they have for this year...
