I know there have been many many DIY lightbox threads but I was wondering what the opinions are of some of the people who have sprung for the real deal. Especially from a convenience factor since I have a DIY one and it always feels temperamental to use.

I have one made by Interfit and the main thing to consider is that its a pain in the arse to get back in the bag. They have metal rings that twist and once they twist the wrong way (it happens) you will have a hell of a time even folding it up. Some other brands might be easier to work with depending on the design but the best i've been able to do is fold mine flat. It's not because the product is poorly constructed either but rather the way they are designed to have such a tiny footprint when packed.

If you have access to a shop that has different types of cubes stocked and can show you how to use the things properly you will be better off knowing what you are buying. Even the cheap ones will give nice shadowless light for the price but i would have rather spent more and got a good Lastolite Cube or gone with a setup like the Giottos ST120/130. Mine was an impulse buy at a local shop and it was the only brand they had in stock being a small store with limited inventory so that was that.

I'm just wanting something to photograph small objects in but looking at pricing if I get one at all, I feel like I should get the biggest one available (within reason) because the difference between the smaller sized ones (usually 16"x16") and the largest ones usually isn't that great.
