I hate using a tripod because I dont like lugging it around everywhere. As useful as they are I like to shoot handheld and dont like to stop, pull out the tripod, set it, and break it down after. I was thinking about a monopod and came across a few monopods with little legs to serve as a tripod? Not sure how well they work but if it does work that would be ideal for me. My wife says I almost have no photos of me so with that in mind I been thinking about purchasing something small enough that I can carry around. Anyone own one of these mono/tripods? Would it support my t2i gripped with 24-104L or 70-200L f/4 IS without topping over? It looks like it might be ok with a prime attatched? Thanks

I have the 682B. I can tell you that it is not a suitable replacement for a steady tripod. With the monopod extended (I'm 6'1") and with my 50D & 70-200 2.8L or 400 5.6L, the legs are not enough to keep the monopod steady. The're really more like springs. I would not trust the monopod to support the gear while I walk away for a self portrait!
I bought the 682B to help with carpal tunnel. The legs make it possible for me to rest my wrists without setting the camera down. I always keep the neck strap around me and when it's extended, a hand on the monopod. It is quite a bit steadier with the monopod collapsed and when I'm sitting with it in this manner, I feel it is safe to let the gear sit, but I hold onto the neck strap.

I only stand 5'3 so with that I wouldn't be extending very high. Do you think that is still too high? I know it cannot replace a tripod but I just hate to carry one along. I've also seen the ones where the bottom shaft if the monopod splits into 3 sections rather than the flimsy little legs at the bottom. Would one of those work better?

It's surprisingly stable, they can be used safely if you don't extend the monopod, but it's still risky to leave unattended, but that goes for a lot of tripods as well.

If your talking about my photos, it's a 5d Mark II with the BG-E6 battery grip.
Trying to show what sort of weight the monopod legs can handle
