I was by myself at the time. But I'm still working on it, and trying to find someone I can trust with my 5D2 in their hands.

I can relate. I was hesitant to give my T2i + 50 1.4 lens to people to make a picture of me... the more expensive it gets the less likely it leaves my hands.
