You are so correct -- this species is very skiddish and very difficult to get close to although not impossible.

I am still not satisfied and will be out tomorrow to see if I can do better.

My question exactly. I saw my first kingfisher on the weekend but it had already flown off before I could get a bead on it. I assume you have to sit and wait for them unless they're used to people? I sat by the river for an hour under a blanket hide behind a tree hoping it would return but no show.
