Hey guys, I've been a supporter of The Animals Asia Foundation for almost 7 years now and have just spent the past 6 months working on a fundraising night which took place almost 2 weeks ago. I raised just under $40,000 for the Moon Bear Rescue campaign which was almost double what I originally set out to do and as part of my fundraising I am trekking through China for 2 weeks from September 18 where I'll shoot and put together my first exhibition. The exhibition will showcase the people and environment of the tibetan villages that I'll be passing through and ofcourse, and most importantly, the bears that have been rescued that are living their days out in the sanctuary.
I have been a long time lover of Pet 'Paw-Traits' and the aim is to photograph these beautiful Moon Bears in a portrait style. Nice and close, narrow depth of field and trying to capture their individual personalities. All of the profits will go back to The Animals Asia Foundation and I need some advice on what is the best type of lens to take. For the portraits of the kids and people etc in the villages, I was quite happy to take my 50mm as it's light and I love the shallow DOP, but apparently I won't get close enough to the bears for the 50mm to be any good. I'll be probably 15-30 meters away so need something that can give me the same result.
The other thing is, well I'm broke because I've just spent almost 6 months working for free, (Ironically though feel happier than I have in a long time), and so I'm hopefull that a local business will sponsor the exhibition for me and purchase the lens. I am totally happy to give the lens back when I return - because it obviously looks dodgy lol
Any suggestions on what the best lens would be for the sanctuary?
Thanks so much
