I am shooting in manual mode, ISO 400, 3.2Av, 15"Tv in JPG and RAW or just JPG.

Why does my camera go into "Busy" mode between shots...its there for 4 seconds, sometimes longer.

Yep, probably the memory card. Another thing I have done for a long time - after shooting and downloading images and everything is backed-up I reformat the memory card before shooting again.

Also if you have Review mode turned on then the camera is having to reduce that image file down to something manageable for the tiny display. I used to make use of the review but realized I was wasting a lot of time reviewing EVERY shot when I really only wanted to look at one or two. For those I can still hold down the shutter button to keep the shot on screen as long as I want (or I can always flip into review mode). But that shaved seconds off the "Busy" time for my Pro1 as well as my A540

Several powershots including the Pro1 and probably the G11 run an in-camera noise reduction software for all pictures with a shutter speed larger than 1.3 secs.
I'm not sure if the noise reduction can be turned off in the G11 (in the Pro1, you can't).

I just tried a shot at 15 seconds and it was busy for 15" processing. I am using a ScanDisk Ultra SD card, class 4. Also written on the card is 15MB/s, although considering the class 4 spec I don't understand how they can achieve this, and apparently it doesn't. Or there is something else at work here...

I also took a 15" shot using a standard SD card and the processing time was the same.

BTW both photo's were just under 1.5MB in size

if it takes another 15" to process the image, it does sounds like a long exposure noise reduction - the camera takes another blank shot with the same exposure to reduce the noise, what Rafael said above. the manual doesn't say anything about it though, but a camera does it with shutter speeds longer than 1"

Just found it, same as with the Pro1. There is a hard-to-find note about noise reduction in page 100 of the user guide:

Good find, before reading your post I tried taking a shot at 1600 x 1200 instead of 3648 x 2736 thinking this would reduce processing, it didn't. Then I tried RAW *only* still no reduction.

Wonder if the CHDK people can turn this off.

Yes, good find...however, I do have the IS set to off as I am on a tripod. But I will try and shut off Review mode to see if that helps.

I am just planing for the Perseids meteor shower and I want to do several 20s back to back exposures and I am trying to minimize the "busy time" as much as possible.
