Hi guys

A while ago I was covering UCI cat 2.1 road cycling race Tour de Slovenie. I didn't have much time and will of posting images here on POTN before, but... :)
First some "statistics". In 4 days of racing (plus extra day before race) we made around 700km on motorbike, I was wet 3 days in a row, had zero accidents, used 2 cameras on most of time, 4-5 lenses in general (not all with me on bike), and almost endless number of cf cards (because they were handed to colleagues during race already).
Sitting on motorbike in sun and rain for 6+ hours a day, with all your gear on shoulders, with roads sometimes looking like swimming pool, and with speed of over 200km/h from time to time, things are not as fun as someone might think. But nevertheless I actually like doing this, since following race from backseat of motorbike beats a whole lot of other experiences. Just that luckily I don't need to do this more then 2 or 3 times a year, because otherwise I can imagine, I would be pretty sick of this :)
Anyway... photos :)

Sorry for watermarks, but photos are linked straight to our archive. But no matter what, any kind of feedback is more then welcome :)

Take care,

Thanks for sharing from that distant land! Shooting multi-day races is a tough gig! I can probably guess, but gotta ask anyway - what lenses did you carry on the motor bike? For 6 hours in the rain, how did the gear hold up?

My pictures: John Wilke Photography (external link), Flikr (external link) , Facebook (external link), Fine Arts America (external link), Canon 1D MkII N, 1D MkIII, various Canon and Tokina lenses. :D

For being on bike I was using 70-200/2.8 on one body and 17-40/4 on other body most of time. With me in "bag" was also 24mm TS in 14/2.8. Camera gear survived all that rain surprisingly well. I had some protection over, but still, when you are driving around for 6 hours in downpour and all gear is out on rain, that little of "rain cover" doesn't make it waterproof. But as I wrote, there was no problems with that, some extensive care on evening probably helped too at least a bit too.

Lovin the TS shot! Not something you see much of in action so it was refreshing to see for sure!
