My wife & I have spent a lot of time this summer shooting Loons. We are fortunate to have a pair on our lake, plus we often drive about 45 km from our cottage in Muskoka to Algonquin Park where there are many loons. These were taken in Algonquin.

Very nice shots. One of the more striking birds. I have only ever seen one here, and it was just passing through. Your lucky to have them around. They were pretty common here when I was a kid.

These are just great Scott... I love loon images and your portraits are marvelous... the habitat second shot is an exceptional composition... a lovely shot.

Thanks Steve, I hope you get to see one! They are much larger than you think (adults up to three feet long with 4-5' wing spans).

Thanks Dave & it was nice to get some good nesting shots. They live on the water 24/7 except for the 3-4 weeks they incubate the eggs.

I just took some loon shots this weekend using a 70-200. Man, there is no comparison to the 500/4. Amazing!

Just marvelous, Scott. You are fortunate to have them, but you know how to get the shot when opportunity knocks. I was hoping to see some of these beautiful birds while touring the north shore of Superior. We did see a couple, too far out for photos.
