I'm sure this is a fabulous lens, with excellent optics, but I find it too heavy to use. I've ended up with a 70-200mm f/4L USM, because after years of using the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM, I have found it much too heavy for day-long hand-holding at belly dance events. And a monopod with ball head is too limiting speed-wise, using the integral collar on the f/2.8L ... just too big! Also, reviewing the EXIF data on a lot of shows, I was not really using the f/2.8 aperture, it was quite often a stop or more less exposure.
